What is Child Benefit?
Child Benefit is a UK government payment made to parents or guardians who are responsible for bringing up a child. It's paid for each child and is usually paid every 4 weeks, though you can choose to receive it weekly if you're a single parent or receiving certain other benefits.
Child Benefit is available for children under 16 (or under 20 if they're in approved education or training). The amount you receive depends on how many children you have, with a higher rate for the first or only child.
How to Use the Child Benefit Calculator
- Enter number of first/only children: Input how many children you're claiming for (the first child gets the higher rate).
- Enter number of additional children: Input how many additional children you're claiming for (each gets the lower rate).
- Enter highest earner's salary (optional): Input the annual salary of the highest earner in your household to calculate the High Income Child Benefit Charge.
