How to use the area calculator

Select a shape, choose your unit (metres, centimetres, feet or inches), enter the required dimensions, then click Calculate Area. The result is the area in square units. Use this for floor space, land area, material coverage or any project that needs area in m², cm², ft² or in².

Formulas used

  • Rectangle: area = length × width
  • Triangle: area = ½ × base × height
  • Circle: area = π × radius²
  • Trapezium: area = ½ × (top + bottom) × height
  • Ellipse: area = π × semi-major axis × semi-minor axis
